Welcome!

Piper
Our adopted dog Piper (Janet) we really lucked out in the dig department, she is such a great dog, we absolutely love her and I think the feeling is mutual, she loves our grandchildren and she has adapted very well to her new surroundings:) So glad we got her Roger and Lois Schwan
Freyja
Freyja
It's been only a few months since I adopted a young mixed retriever from your Humane Society. She was from TX and had a few ailments that weren't detectable at her early age. I named her Freyja and she is a joy! I'm attaching a picture from when I adopted her versus how she looks today. I must add that she is a very healthy and beautiful dog. Thank you for bringing her in to my life.
Rocky
Rocky
Hello, I just wanted to fill you in on rocky I love him so much he is doing so good. He even has many new dog and people friends! We just love him so much, and he is so happy and spoiled! Best, Megan Brown
Jamie
It has been a little over a month since Annie Oakley (Oakley for short) came into my life and I could not be happier. She has already made a huge impact in my life. Our first couple days were a little rough. Having depression and anxiety affects my life in many ways and one way is how I handle change. When a big change happens, it takes me a while to adapt. So, our first weekend together, I ran home to my parents (thankfully she loves car rides) and hung there for the weekend. I wasn't sure if we would be a good fit but Oakley knew right away. I was mainly concerned about if I would be a good enough owner for her and it scared me at how quickly she trusted me and how quickly she became attached to me. But she knew. And after the weekend with her (and convincing myself we would be a good fit) I haven't looked back. Anyway, back to Oakley. As you know, Oakley is a rather shy dog. She doesn't really like people. (My friends and family always joke that we're a perfect fit - neither of us like people.) But she is slowly, and I mean slowly, warming up to my mom (takes treats from her, allows her on the couch, etc). But we still are sure about my dad, mainly just growl at him. Or any man for that matter. The vet suggested obedience class to get her self esteem up. So, we are doing just that, once a week. The first week wasn't so good. We spent most the time in the corner, shaking and hiding (and Brittani trying not to cry). We put a weighted vest on and eventually convinced her to come out with the other dogs and owners. Week 4 was a totally different story. She wanted to play with all the dogs. We are still working on listening (and paying attention in class) I know she knows what she is doing (like when she found my glasses while I was napping, chewed them up, and then hid them under a squeaker toy). However, overall she is doing great! She loves to chew up all her toys. I have found a couple she hasn't destroyed. And like most dogs, she loves going on walks. I bought a 'Magnascreen' for my balcony door and she loves to just sit and look outside. She also enjoys throwing her toys to herself but doesn't quite get "fetch" yet. Oh and let me tell you about my couch. That is her spot. That is the first place she went when I brought her to my apartment. It is also where she is when I am at my parents house trying to convince her to come upstairs to bed. She also loves to give me kisses and that seems to be the easiest place to do it. #eyelevel Sometimes, I have to try to convince her to let me have a spot. But usually she's good at letting me sit next to her. ;) There is a saying when you rescue a dog, "who rescued who?" and that is so true. However, I am pretty sure she rescued me. Thanks you for rescuing her so she could rescue me. #adoptdontshop #rescuedismyfavoritebreed Sincerely, Brittani KaLouise
Libby
Libby
Hello! We adopted Libby over a week ago and she is the sweetest girl! I just wanted to let you guys know that she has been doing amazing. She is a little frightened of strangers but she follows my boyfriend and I everywhere! She has not had any accidents in the house and she loves to go on long walks daily and play fetch. We love her so much and we are happy to be her forever home!
Lilly
Hello, Just thought I would pop in and let you know how I am doing. This is Lily, my mom is letting me use her work computer again J. Not sure if you remember me, but my mom and dad had found me on the highway and brought me into your care on July 5th of 2015. They ended up adopting me and I moved into my forever home with my many siblings. I am doing great!! I am still the baby of the clan (and a spoiled baby at that) and loving every minute of it. My health is great and I grew up to be quite the silly girl. Chance (one of the dogs) has become my best buddy and really loves to be protective of me, which sometimes gets annoying, but I deal with it because I know he must really love me. Sleeping on my dad’s head is still my favorite place to sleep. I have found that I really adore catnip, even though mom and dad say I get really goofy they still let me have it once in a while. I love to hunt bugs and I am great at it, Ranger (dad’s hunting buddy) and I have a ball if a fly gets in the house, although sometimes we knock a few things over. I usually get the “prize” as Ranger will go on point and won’t move until dad says “Release”, in the meantime I am fast and sneaky and jump on the fly first. Sometimes, I will let it go so we can chase after it again….hmmm…I wonder if the fly enjoys the game as much as we do?? I still love to play with the other cats, especially Smores, Junior and Sophie we can really get going running all over and “attacking” each other, it is so much fun and mom and dad will laugh at us as we roll around on the floor. They say we are just so cute playing nicely together. Wow, I had more to say than I thought but of course I could go on about me forever. Anyway, I am doing great, loving my many playmates/siblings. And I really love my snuggle time in the evening with mom and dad, of course I have to be with the one that has Chance J (he is a great snuggle buddy). PS – I attached a few photos of me with Chance and Smores. Love, Lilly
Blackie
Blackie
Dear Humane Society of the Lakes, We just want you to know that Blackie's first night at his new forever home in Fargo has gone just fine! His new sister Nika Rae and he played all night. As you can see from the attached pic, he's doing great! He's on the right. 😃 We'd like to thank the great young ladies who helped us tonight adopt Blackie!!! Sincerely, Brit Stevens & Family
Kringle
Kringle
Kringle (now known as Finnegan) is doing great!! He settled into his new forever home right away, and has become the best of buds with my other cat, Brambleberry. He loves eating the fresh goose and duck meat my boyfriend grinds up for them, and is getting quite the little kitty belly. He loves to gather up all the cat toys early in the morning and bring them into our bed so I have plenty of things to play with upon waking up :) He is super rambunctious, playful, and sweet, and has brought so much joy into our home! He is loved dearly by us all!! Thank you all for what you do! Sohaila, Ryan, Brambleberry & Finn
Cookie
Cookie
Cookie now “Oreo” was adopted on 5/17/16 for your facility .Oreo joined a home with two other dachshunds Cookie and Cocoa. She has adjusted very well as you can tell from the picture. When she is not busy playing with her siblings she likes to find a nice blanket to snuggle into.
Daisy
Daisy
Last July we decided to adopt a dog and we couldn't be happier. Daisy is a yellow lab who has brought us much joy and love. She is the best thing that has happened to us. She is very well trained and great around everyone she meets. Thank you so much!
Casper
Casper
Just a short scribble to update everyone on Casper’s new life. When we brought Casper into his new home he immediately hid in the basement, it took few treats and a lot of attention to get him to come upstairs and join the rest of the family. That night as we prepared for bed we found that he had finally made himself at home….he was sleeping in our bed. That definitely was not going to work and made him lay down on a bed we had purchased that day for him. A few minutes later Casper made himself at home in our daughter’s bed and sleeps there to this day. Casper is a very gentle and loving soul and wants nothing more than to spend time with his family. We love him dearly and cannot imagine our life without him. Thanks to everyone at the Humane Society of the Lakes for taking such good care of Casper until we could find each other.
Bernie
Bernie
Bernie is the most lovable dog I have ever met. He's starting to get comfortable in our house and he and Stella are best friends! Can't imagine our lives without him!
Bacon

Mina
Mina
Just letting you know that we absolutely ADORE Meika (formerly Mina)! I don't know how she was still available because she is just a sweetheart! As you can see by the attached photos, she's settling in rather well. She's already learned to lay on her rug and has done great overnight. She gets one long walk a day and a few short ones. She has such good manners and is smart, sweet and such a cuddler. She met the neighbor kids and neighbor dog and did great with both (esp. loved the kids). She was great in the car on the way home - she wanted her head out the window the whole time, but we were getting cold. LOL She finally just put her head down and went to sleep. Please let everyone know how much we love her and how happy she is in her new home. We both believe we hit the jackpot with her and we hope we have her for 10 or more years! Thank you for taking care of her until we found her!
Smokey
Smokey
Good morning, Smokey is doing well! He loves to sit in the windows and look outside and he is a super curious and exploring guy. He has found a few little nooks in our house that he loves to sleep in. He is eating well and has transitioned to our other food mixed with his Royal Canin and is doing well with that. No vomiting or diarrhea. We had him checked out by our vet last week. She said he was in great shape and she wanted us to try taking him off the anxiety meds. He has been off them for about a week and we haven't noticed anything come up. He is more energetic and "with it" since being off them, but no anxious behaviors. He still isn't too sure about our other cat, but they aren't fighting so I guess that is the best we can hope for! Rudy would love for them to be BFFs but Smokey still wants his own space Here he is in his favorite new hiding spot snoozing this morning. Tiffany Brandon
Winston
Winston
Winston is doing GREAT at our house. He wasn't to pleased with the dogs at first but now he plays with their tails and rubs up on them. He tolerates just about anything including being held like a baby. He greets us at the door every time we come home by jumping on our legs. He will cruise around the house on your shoulders if you'll let him. He gets to sleep in bed with us every night. For some reason he loves to nap in the bathroom sink. Our 6 month old loves to chase him around and is pretty much the reason he started crawling! We are so very happy that this furry little guy is in our life.
Hachi
Hachi
Hello, Just wanted to send an update on Hachi, the puppy we adopted two years ago. He is going wonderful! He is one of the best dogs we have ever had. He has a 3 year old Great Dane "big brother" that loves to run around and wrestle. They are quite amusing to watch. Hachi starts his morning by doing his patrol around the yard, making sure there are no chipmunks. He is very protective of his family and home. Almost every weekend he gets to go to grandma’s house and play with his sister, who was also adopted from HSL. He LOVES his car rides. He enjoys walks through the flea market when it isn't too hot (even though his brother gets more attention by the crowd). Thank you for everything you guys do!
Malibu
Malibu
Happy Tail—Malibu (Kendra) Kendra formerly “Malibu” was adopted into our family in June. She has since than adjusted wonderfully into her new home which took her little to no time to fit right in. Kendra likes to be outside on beautiful sunny days and run around her 5 acre yard. Once she gets tired out she likes to go up to her dad and snuggle up. Those two have created a pretty special bond since she has been with us. Kendra loves to play with the grandchildren when they come to visit. They love chasing each other around. Miss Kendra loves giving sloppy wet kisses. One of Kendra’s favorite things to do is ride into town with Ma and Pa in the truck, she is a great rider. We just love her!
Daisy Duke
Daisy Duke
This is Daisy Duke! She was adopted from the shelter in 2009! Her adopters stopped in to bring us a current picture and let us know that she is doing great! She is the perfect dog and they love her so much!
Tater
Tater
Tater LOVES his new home. He has a wonderful backyard that he gets to run around and play in! His adopters absolutely cannot imagine life without this little guy.
Mufasa
Mufasa "Moo Moo"
My name is Mufasa "Moo Moo" Husby. I just wanted to let my fellow felines know how I'm doing since my adoption. Life is very wonderful! I have 2 new cat siblings Hank "Bug" is 12 yrs & my little sister Angel "Foxy" is 4 months. My dad & mom are home almost all the time to spoil us with dry food, can food, milk, treats, catnip, etc... We have other family members & kitties who come over to play often. My sister & I lay on a cat stand by the picture window to look at the outside world. My favorite toy is a skunk that I like to hold in my mouth & growl like I caught him. We each have a cozy bed near the fireplace. As you can see in my photo Angel is my new best friend also. We wrestle, chase, play, sleep together, & find trouble. We have discovered the Christmas tree can be very fun to climb & play with ornaments when dad & mom aren't looking. We love to cuddle & sleep on the couch & bed with dad & mom to receive attention, love, & wait for new adventures each day! Dad & mom would like to thank the Humane Society for bringing this perfect kitty into our family - he is very loved & appreciated as our new gift. We are thinking of our feline friends & praying they too can find the perfect forever home soon. With lots of love, David, Kristi, Hank, Mufasa, & Angel Husby
Duke
Duke
Not sure if you remember this guy or not, but I adopted Duke over the winter...in March I think? I live out on a small organic hobby farm. We have chickens and a few ducks, so I take him out on the leash during the day, then at dusk I let him run wild around the farm and he loves it! I brought him to the vet right away and he has had all of his shots, I have his flea and tick medicine and heartworm prevention. He is in great health and a ton of fun! Anyway, just thought I would share a few pictures of him doing his thing and leading a spoiled life! Brian Burgess
Hachi
Hachi
Hachi is doing wonderful in his home. He loves to be outside and play with his "brother" Rosco. Every morning when my son gets up, Hachi runs over to him and tells him "Good Morning!!". He is a very good boy and is still growing. We are thinking he will be an 80lb dog or bigger. He tries to act big and tough but he is a little baby. Hachi is protective of his mommy and my son, even if his brother Rosco gets attention, Hachi doesn't like it and pushes him out of the way. He is a goof ball that keeps us laughing whether it is sleeping upside down, snoring or tripping over his long legs that he still doesn't always have control over. We are so happy to have him in our life and he is the best puppy we have ever had!! Courtney Goettel (pictured are Hachi and Rosco)
Noka
Noka
We adopted Noka from you in August…as you can see she has become a part of the family. She's a great friend to us and our daughter. Thank You, Bev Chapman
Penny
Penny
Penny’s furrever home sent a card with some pictures of her all cozy and happy! She is doing great in her new home and is all settled in! She just loves to follow her pet parents around where ever they go! She is completely housebroken and she loves to go outside to roll in the snow and will push it around with her nose like a little bulldozer! Penny is a very loving girl and they couldn’t have gotten a better dog!
Wiley's New Life
Wiley's New Life
We adopted Wiley just before Thanksgiving. He has completely stolen our hearts! He absolutely loves the snow. He pouts when we come back inside. Wiley is still a little naughty about sharing his toys, but we are working on that. We start therapy training in a couple of weeks. My son has Aspergers Syndrome and even without training, Wiley seems to know exactly what Jack needs. His herding and nurturing instincts are incredible. The other day, I realized that Wiley was a true rescue dog -- he rescued US!! Attached a picture of Jack and Wiley waiting for the school bus. Thanks for all you do on behalf of the shelter. And......thanks again for placing Wiley with us.---Tammy and Family
Heath
Heath
Heath has adjusted very well in our house he is pretty much potty trained. Only time he has an accident… well not accident, but more for attention is when I start doing things around the house. Heath is very sweet, loving and playful ….he is very comfortable with us and knows when he is naughty...like taking my shoes and only my shoes and chewing on them. He has taking my shoes and put them in his kennel and pulled his blanket over them so I can't see that he has them. He has tons of toys which are always all over the living room as is his blanket and pillow he lays on. He is very active and at his last vet check he was 11 pounds. I am very happy I adopted him and love him tons… I take him everywhere with me and yes he is VERY SPOILED !!! Billie
Inky (known as Dave)
Inky (known as Dave)
Update on inky (now named "Dave" by our 2 year old) What a perfect cat! Our first night home I expected him to stay in the area of his litter box and food/water and just slowly explore the house level by level. To our surprised he did a quick once over of the entire house and then made him self at home stretched out on the living room floor like a rug. Our dog thinks he is the coolest thing and Dave just lays there with out a care in the world as our little doxie climbs all over him. He is also extremely tolerant of all 3 kids and loves the attention whether it's being drug around the house or snuggled with on the couch. During the day he sleeps on our bed and watches out the window. He is eating good and would rather share the water dish with the dog then use his own. The only thing we have found that frightens him is the sound of the sliding glass door. Which just makes the normal sliding sound. So that's strange. I just wanted to send a quick note letting you know we are thrilled with him, he is exactly what we were hoping for and couldn't be happier!!! Also I am pretty sure Dave is happy to have my home to wander and not be sitting in a cage. Huge thank you! KC Clark
Maks
Maks
Hi, Maks is doing well. I think he is happy and feels settled in and at home. He is doing much better with not hassling the horses and barking at them. He doesn't chase the indoor cats anymore (hallelujah) but still chases the outdoor cats. He loves to run and Play!! He is lovable and quite well behaved in the house. Maks is very much a sweetheart with a big heart!! Such a good boy! I have to watch myself because I catch myself calling him "Big Boy" all the time. We are working on him coming to us when he doesn't want to come. He runs around and stays just out of reach or just ignores us. But with a lot of praise when he does come he is getting better at coming when called. ~Jerianne A.
